When telling time in spanish, we don't use the word "time". We refer, instead, to the hours. If it is exactly 7 o'clock, we say it is 7 hours (siete horas). Another way that this is said is simply "the seven" (las siete). If it is not exactly on the hour, there are a few terms we need. The most simple method of saying what time it is will be just to connect however many minutes after the hour it is to the hour with the use of "and" (y). For example 7:11 would be "siete y once". That will hold for any time (but is not good if you can't count up to sixty). You may say that it is quarter past by adding "y cuarto" to the hour. (7:15 - siete y cuarto). You may say that it is half past by adding "y media" to the hour. (7:30 - siete y media) You may say that it is quarter to the hour by adding "quince para" in front of the hour. (7:45 - quince para ocho)
